I became fascinated by religious paintings on trips to Italy and indeed from paintings in the National Gallery, London. Whether of a religious disposition or not these paintings are very moving and very beautiful and I found them a source of inspiration.

Other inspiration has come from the urban London environment and in particular from the Thames and my home of Deptford that has such a long maritime history.

Many years ago I started painting garden flowers but ultimately found wild flowers and their surrounding far more interesting.  Nature in the wild is un-posed and in London it is often accompanied by old walls, fences and litter and I find this most fascinating.
